Let Your Light Shine

We are the light of the world. We are the light in the mist of the darkness in this present world. The light that brings revelation, the light that stands out above all others, the light that does not conform to the world, the light that draws all men to Christ. As Jesus showed His light to others so are we to do the same in order to bring glory to God.

"You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.  Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket but on a lampstand and it gives light to all who are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven". Matthew 5:14-16 (NKJV)

We are the light in the darkness (Philippians 2:15). When light comes into a room, darkness cease to exist. Light overpowers the darkness and gives life to the room. As we are children of God and joint-heirs with Jesus Christ, we carry the presence of God wherever we go. Christ is in us and whatever we do or say should portray who He is.

A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Our light cannot be hidden. We cannot try to be like everyone else. We weren't made to conform to the world but to be a light in it that stands out from the norm. We are a peculiar people, a people set apart to God (Deuteronomy 7:6). We are called to be different even as Jesus was different. Our light is to be seen, not for our glory but for God's.

Why do we hide our light? Why then do we want to be like everyone else? God has given each of us characteristics that are unique to us. Each of us are different. Our light was made to shine. What is our light? Our light is the characteristics of Jesus Christ, the fruit of the Spirit, the gifts and the talents that God has given to us. Don't hide your gifts any longer but use them (1 Timothy 4:14). We don't want to be like the man with the one talent who buried it and who never to showed forth its light (Matthew 25:14-30).

Our light brings glory and honour unto God. Our light is not for our fame. Everything that we do, should glorify God. Through our light, men would be drawn to Christ as they would see the love of God and they will see something that is powerful and life changing.

Where can you let your light shine? Let it shine in your school, your workplace, your home and the supermarket. It is not to be hidden. It is to shine that men may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Heavenly Father, help us to let our lights shine. I pray that we would not hide them any longer, we would not be afraid of what others may say or think about us but we will let our lights shine, giving glory and honour to You. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
